Most Kenyans live below poverty line; its even worse for paraplegics who end up incurring astronomical bills and in hospitals or hefty monies to insulate themselves from the ensuing medical complication. Its against this background, Affording wheelchairs, catheters, urine bags, cushions and other aiding devices is a mirage to most of the paraplegics. To this end, KPO organizes fundraising campaigns and initiatives to mobilize these all needed assistive devices. Enhanced mobility project: With support from organizations and well-wishers, we have since been able to donate over 500 wheelchairs to our needy members. Imperative to add is that the rough Kenyan terrain continues to shackle wheelchair uses in Kenya. Wheelchairs easily depreciate and break down after at an unanticipated rate. To alleviate this problem, KPO is currently researching on possibilities of developing paraplegic friendly wheelchairs that are adapted to the Kenyan terrain. We also recently launched a paraplegic friendly car in an event officiated by Colin Javens, the inspirational founder of The Driving Home Tour.
